Tips for going to court
- If you are under 18 you are entitled to free legal assistance from Legal Aid or the Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS).
- Don’t miss your court date. You are legally required to attend your hearing.
- Bring all your court or police paperwork with you.
- Wear clean neat clothes and don’t wear caps, sunnies, or beanies into the courtroom.
- It is helpful to have your parents, a youth worker or your employer with you.
- It can take a long time before you go into court so bring lunch and something to read.
- Your case may not be finalised on the day and you may have to return. Remember to get your new court date.
