In July WSCLC was able to host a delegation from Indonesia through our friends at the Law and Justice Foundation.
The Indonesian delegation included government and non-government representatives who were learning about community legal centres in preparation for establishing a legal aid scheme. Indonesia is in the process of major reforms of its access to justice policy framework and strategy.
Paula Chegwidden – the new Director of WSCLC and Peter Longfield, Acting Principal Solicitor spent some time with the group discussing organisational structure, funding models and the practicalities of providing legal services and legal support services within the NSW context.
Stan Small from the Children’s Court Assistance Scheme was also able to speak to the group about his program.
The group asked some very good questions and were very interested particularly in the funding structure of WSCLC.
It was a great opportunity to assist our Indonesian neighbours in the development of their program.
The delegation also visited Legal Aid NSW, CLC NSW, Law Access NSW, the Aboriginal Legal Service, and Kingsford Legal Centre.
